TPU-LW utilizes active foaming technology to create lightweight, low-density parts without sacrificing durability. Unlike standard TPU, this filament expands within the hotend. By precisely controlling your printing temperature and speed, you can manipulate the foaming ratio (up to 172%), allowing you to customize the density and weight of your prints.
Whether you are printing high-performance RC aircraft parts, cosplay props, or shock-absorbing wearables, TPU-LW offers a finish and weight class that standard TPU cannot match.
Key Features
- Changeable Hardness (93A – 77A): The hotter you print, the more the material foams. You can vary the hardness of your model from a firm 93A down to a soft 77A simply by adjusting temperature and speed.
- Ultra-Lightweight (Up to 70% Lighter): With a maximum foaming volume ratio of 172%, TPU-LW allows for drastically lighter parts compared to standard TPU, making it the industry standard for 3D printed model aircraft and drones.
- Premium Matte Finish: The foaming process creates a fine matte texture that effectively hides layer lines. This surface provides excellent pigment adhesion, making it fantastic for painting and post-processing.
- High Resilience & Strength: Despite being lightweight, the interlayer adhesion is exceptional. Prints are durable, tear-resistant, and possess dynamic flexibility, quickly returning to shape after deformation.
⚠️ Critical Printing Guidelines
Please read before printing: Because this material foams inside the nozzle, it behaves differently than standard flexible filaments.
- DISABLE RETRACTION: You must disable the retraction function in your slicer. Retracting expanding foam can pull air into the nozzle and cause severe clogging.
- Expect Stringing: Without retraction, stringing is normal. We recommend using Vase Mode (Spiralize Outer Contour) where possible to eliminate travel moves.
- Flow Rate vs. Temperature: As temperature increases, the material expands more. You must reduce your flow rate (extrusion multiplier) as you increase the temperature to maintain dimensional accuracy.
- Print Speed: As a flexible material, keep your print speeds low (20-40mm/s) for the best results.
